Common questions
How much does a therapy session cost?
Individual and couple sessions are $200 each, plus HST. You can pay by cash or insurance. Fees for family sessions depend on who’s coming, so ask me when you get in touch.
Is therapy with a Registered Psychotherapist covered by OHIP?
No. OHIP doesn’t cover sessions with a Registered Psychotherapist in private practice. Most people pay through workplace or private benefits, or pay directly.
Can I claim therapy on my income taxes?
Often, yes. The Canada Revenue Agency lists Registered Psychotherapists in Ontario as authorized medical practitioners, so fees you pay yourself, and aren’t reimbursed by insurance, can count toward the medical expense tax credit. Keep your receipts.
Do I need a doctor’s referral to claim on insurance?
You don’t need a referral to book with me, but some insurance plans ask for one before they reimburse you. Check your plan’s rules before your first session.
